We are happy to share that we have collaborated with Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) to create a case study on how digital ID technology is optimizing next generation fill-finish production lines.
The demand for pre-filled syringes (PFS) is increasing as they offer numerous advantages over vials. As the industry moves towards a platform approach, where multiple products or doses are filled into the same syringe container, the importance of robust drug batch segregation strategies is becoming increasingly clear.
BD partnered with Avery Dennison to develop a solution that would allow for unit-level digital identification of PFS. RFID technology was chosen because it does not need a direct line of sight and it would not interfere with visual inspections of the syringe. The result is an industry-leading innovation where RFID tags have been embedded into the rigid needle shield of the syringe to become an intrinsic part of the product. This allows for real-time control on the syringe ID, which can be cross-checked to prevent mix-ups during or post-assembly. Interested to find out more? Read our case study.
